CHITRAL (BALOCHISTAN): Pakistani Police opened an investigation into the wedding of a 14 year old girl with Maulana Salahuddin Ayubi, leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), and member of the National Assembly (MNA) of Balochistan.
Citing local media, Pak Observer reported that police launched the investigation after receiving a complaint from an NGO working for the welfare of women in Chitral.
According to a report by Dawn, the girl was a student at Government Girls High School in Jughoor, where her date of birth was recorded as October 28, 2006, which showed that she had not reached the age of marriage.
Maulana Salahuddin Ayubi, the member of the National Assembly is in his fifties, according to Pakistan media.
Chitral Police Station Inspector SHO Sajjad Ahmed said that a few days ago, following the organization’s complaint, police arrived at the girl’s home, but her father denied the girl’s marriage and even gave an affidavit to it.
The teenager’s marriage to the Pakistani MP, who is four times her age, comes despite the country’s law, which does not allow marriages of girls under the age of 16 and also recommends punishing parents if they do. do voluntarily.
According to Pak Observer, the lawmaker only celebrated Nikkah with the girl when a proper wedding ceremony has yet to take place.
Meanwhile, Lower Chitral’s DPD said the girl’s father assured authorities he would not send his daughter until she was 16.
